Kane sat at an even .500 in mid-June of that final season before sliding down the standings as the summer wore on, while DuBois and Oil City traded first place.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 1907 roster carried a first baseman named Daubert, very likely Jake Daubert in his first professional season. When the Mountaineers visited Punxsutawney in June 1907, the local paper judged that the game, a 3-1 loss in an hour and forty minutes, \"moved along as though on ball bearings,\" and credited Kane's fielders with some of the quickest plays seen on the grounds all season.
