The Burlington Flints played the Three-I League (the Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League) in 1952 and 1953 as a Cincinnati Reds affiliate. The name echoes Burlington's original name, Flint Hills, from the flint-rich bluffs above the Mississippi where the city was settled in 1833.
The Flints went 64-60 in 1952 under Len Schulte. In 1953 Cincinnati sent Johnny Vander Meer, the only big league pitcher to throw back-to-back no-hitters, to manage the club. The team became the Burlington Bees in 1954.
