Vintage Louisiana Shirts: Defunct Louisiana Baseball Teams

Louisiana was Evangeline League country. From the 1930s into the 1950s the league kept professional baseball across Acadiana and the river parishes: the Lafayette Bulls, the Crowley Millers, the New Iberia Pelicans, the Rayne Rice Birds, the Jeanerette Blues, and the Baton Rouge Red Sticks. The Alexandria Aces were the only club to play all twenty-one of the league's seasons.

North Louisiana played a different game entirely. The Shreveport Gassers took their name from the natural gas fields that had transformed the region, and won the 1919 pennant after league officials split the season in two to keep the race interesting.
