The Danville Old Soldiers played just one season in the Kitty League in 1906, following earlier short-lived teams like the Danville Browns (1888–1889) and Danville Champions (1900). Their unusual name likely came from a local home for disabled Union Civil War veterans. The team finished with a 58–69 record, highlighted by pitcher-outfielder Pearl Holycross, who went 19–9 on the mound and hit .271 at the plate. Baseball returned to Danville several times in the 20th century under names like the Veterans, Dodgers, Dans, Speakers, Warriors, and finally the Suns, who relocated to Peoria in 1982 and became the Chiefs.
