Greenville Staplers
The Greenville Staplers were a brief but uniquely named entry into the East Texas League for the 1923 season. Yes, they were really named the Staplers and despite a good search of newspaper archives, we don't really know why. The East Texas League was a Class D minor league that operated between 1916 and 1950. The Staplers were a one-year wonder in the league. Archives shows the Staplers planned to return for the 1924 season, but didn't end up doing so. But regardless, it's one of the best nicknames we've seen.
