Jacksonville Tomato Pickers
The Jacksonville Tomato Pickers - yes that was their real name - were a minor league baseball team from Jacksonville, Texas, that played in the East Texas League. The name comes from Jacksonville's moniker as the "Tomato Capital of the World" for its significant tomato production and the city also holds an annual tomato festival. They played for one season in 1916 and are believed to be the first baseball team established in Jacksonville. The 1916 season was a short one too, as the season was called in mid-July due to low attendance and Lufkin was declared the winning team.
