The Greenville Staplers were a brief but uniquely named entry in the East Texas League for the 1923 season. Yes, they were really named the Staplers, and despite a good search of the newspaper archives we don't really know why. The East Texas League was a Class D minor league that operated between 1916 and 1950. The Staplers were a one-year wonder in the league; the archives show they planned to return for 1924 but didn't end up doing so. Regardless, it's one of the best nicknames we've seen.
