The Tri-City Atoms, representing Kennewick, Pasco and Richland, Washington, were managed in back-to-back summers by Cal Ripken Sr. and Hall of Famer Duke Snider, and both won the pennant. Ripken's 1965 club went 81-58 and swept the Lewiston Broncs three games to none in the playoff; Snider's 1966 club went 57-27. Don LeJohn added a third title in 1968, giving the Kennewick, Pasco and Richland club three titles in four years.

The Atoms name is generally tied to the nearby Hanford Site, the Manhattan Project's plutonium plant. Alumni include Dave May, later traded for Hank Aaron; 1969 National League Rookie of the Year Ted Sizemore; and Ron Cey, who made his pro debut with the 1968 club.
