The Wenatchee Chiefs of Wenatchee, Washington, played 25 seasons, 1937 to 1965, at Recreation Park. A committee picked the name from entries in a 1937 contest run with The Wenatchee Daily World. In the Western International League the Chiefs won pennants in 1939, under former Pirates shortstop Glenn Wright, and in 1946, under Buddy Ryan. Bill Bevens, later one out from a World Series no-hitter, pitched for the 1938-39 clubs.
From 1955 the Chiefs played in the Class B circuit that succeeded the Western International League, winning its title in 1957 and 1962. Claude Osteen went 14-4 in 1958, and the Cubs-era clubs of 1961-65 developed Ken Hubbs, the 1962 National League Rookie of the Year, Glenn Beckert and Ken Holtzman.
