The Charleroi Governors played in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, a Monongahela Valley glass town founded in the 1890s and named for Charleroi in Belgium, home of many of the glassworkers recruited to staff its plants. The Governors spent three seasons in the Class C Middle Atlantic League from 1929 through 1931.
The franchise had arrived in the league two years earlier under a different name. Charleroi entered in 1927 as the Babes and played two seasons under that name before becoming the Governors in 1929. The club's run ended in 1931, the same collapse year that scattered Jeannette across three cities and preceded the league's contraction from twelve teams to six.
Professional baseball returned to Charleroi in 1934, when the city joined the Class D Pennsylvania State Association as a Detroit Tigers affiliate and played three seasons as the Charleroi Tigers through 1936.
The Middle Atlantic League was a Class C circuit that ran from 1925 through 1951, pausing for three wartime seasons, with teams drawn mostly from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia.
