The Everett Smokestackers of Everett, Washington, won the pennant in their only season. The Smokestackers joined the four-team Class B Northwestern League in 1905, finished 60-37, 11 games ahead of Bellingham, and became the league's first champion. Player-manager Billy Hulen, a former left-handed-throwing Phillies shortstop, led the league in runs; in 1906 he vanished and resurfaced a year later in Alberta playing as Billy Hamilton.
Everett promoted itself for decades as the "City of Smokestacks," for the mills along its waterfront. The Everett Daily Herald reported more than 5,000 fans at the 1905 home opener, with businesses closing at 2:30 p.m. and sawmills shutting down at noon for the game. The club did not return in 1906.
