The Goldfield Miners, based in Goldfield, Nevada, won the championship of the 1907 Nevada State League, the only season of professional baseball the gold camp ever had. Goldfield was then the largest city in Nevada, with more than 20,000 people, five years after gold was found there.
The Miners won their first six games and finished 9-5, a half game ahead of Carson City. On August 6, 1907, league president John T. Powers came to umpire a game in Goldfield with two revolvers strapped around his waist and a reported $5,000 riding on the result. The sheriff disarmed him and the game went on. Six years later Powers founded the Federal League.
