The Olympia Senators of Olympia, Washington, began in 1903 as the Maroons, a Class D charter member of the Southwest Washington League with Aberdeen, Hoquiam and Centralia. Only weekend league games counted in the standings, and the Morning Olympian warned fans that the Maroons were "apparently snake bit" in the games that mattered. They finished 7-11, and in September the Elks and Foresters held a charity game to help pay the bills.
In 1904 the club became the Senators, after Olympia's status as the state capital. In May 1905 the Morning Olympian introduced the players as legislators, including "Senator Cook" and "Senator Dye," and the 1905 Senators finished second at 20-16, behind the Montesano Farmers. By 1906 the Grays Harbor clubs had moved to the Northwestern League, and Olympia never had minor league baseball again.
