The Scottdale Scotties played in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, a Westmoreland County coke and rail town, and spent six seasons in the Middle Atlantic League from 1925 through 1930 before the club was renamed the Scottdale Cardinals for 1931. They joined the league partway through its inaugural summer, added on July 12, 1925.

The last two Scotties seasons are the ones worth knowing about. Scottdale became a St. Louis Cardinals farm club in 1929, and the man sent to run it was Eddie Dyer, who managed the team in 1929 and 1930. Dyer went on to manage the parent club in St. Louis and won the 1946 World Series in his first season there.

Playing the outfield for Dyer's 1930 Scotties was a young Joe Medwick. Medwick reached St. Louis in 1932, won the National League Triple Crown in 1937, the last National Leaguer to do it, and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1968. For a town of a few thousand people in the coke country, one season produced both a future World Series manager and a future Hall of Famer.

The Cardinals affiliation carried through the 1931 season under the new Scottdale Cardinals name, after which professional baseball left Scottdale for good.

The Middle Atlantic League was a Class C circuit that ran from 1925 through 1951, pausing for three wartime seasons, with teams drawn mostly from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia.
