Ashland Colonels

The Ashland Colonels played in the Mountain State League from 1939 to 1942. Although it was called the Mountain State (singular) League and featured teams from West Virginina, the Colonels were the lone entrant in the league from Kentucky, given Ashland's home right along the KY-WV border. They competed against teams such as the Beckley Bengals and Huntington Bees. The Colonels would be the last team in Ashland until 1993 when the Frontier League put a franchise there.

The Colonels were one of many teams in smaller towns and cities during this era, as Americans looked for recreational outlets and America's pastime swept the country.
