Vintage Connecticut Shirts: Defunct Connecticut Baseball Teams
Connecticut has been playing professional baseball since the 1870s, but Norwich waited most of a century for a club of its own to return. The mill city on the Thames River went without one from the day the Norwich Bon Bons folded in July 1910 until 1995, when the Norwich Navigators arrived from Albany and opened Dodd Stadium, built in just five months. That first season drew 281,473 fans.
As a New York Yankees farm club, the Navigators sent Mike Lowell, Nick Johnson and Alfonso Soriano up the line to the Bronx, hosted rehab starts from Roger Clemens and David Cone, and won the league title at home in 2002 under rookie manager Luis Sojo. The Navigators name lasted through 2005, and Dodd Stadium still hosts summer baseball today. Our vintage Connecticut shirts honor these defunct clubs with original designs grounded in real research.
