Beckley Bengals
The Beckley Bengals were a minor league baseball team from Beckley, WV. They played in the Mountain State League in 1937 and 1938, winning the league title both years. The Bengals were an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, which likely led to their success as affiliations were off-and-on for many teams in this league. The Bengals can claim all-stars Frank McCormick and Lee Grissom as alums. McCormick was a nine-time all-star and 1940 MVP.
The Bengals were one of many teams in smaller towns and cities during this era, as Americans looked for recreational outlets and America's pastime swept the country.
