
Clay City Nine
The Clay City Nine were a turn of the century baseball team from Clay City, Kentucky playing around 1900 through 1920. They played various teams from around Kentucky and its not clear if they belonged to a specific league. They played teams from Lexington, Louisville, and other cities. In 1903 they famously beat the Newport Reds, which at the time were one of the best teams in the nation.
There was also a later team by the same name during the 1950s that played in the Central Kentucky Baseball League, a more localized with teams from Irvine, Stanton, Beattyville, and Richmond. Presumed to be an amateur or semi-pro league.
