Kingsport Cherokees
The Kingsport Cherokees were a minor league baseball team from Kingsport, Tennessee. The team played in the old Appalachian League as well as the Mountain States League. Both leagues were a Class D league comprised of teams from the mountains of Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia and were successful circuit for the time.
The Cherokees played in the App League from 1938-52 and the Mountain States League in 1953 and 54. They were App League champs in 1944, 1945 and 1951. The Cherokees were an early part of a long line of baseball history in Kingsport, that continues today.
