Mobile Baysharks
The Mobile BaySharks were a professional independent minor‑league baseball team based in Mobile, Alabama. They competed in the Texas–Louisiana League during the 1994 and 1995 seasons. Their home field was Eddie Stanky Field at the University of South Alabama. In their inaugural 1994 season they finished 8th out of eight teams with a record of 35–53 (.398) and did not make the playoffs. In 1995 the team again placed last, finishing 40–59 (.404) and failed to qualify for postseason play. The BaySharks folded after the 1995 season, in part due to the announced return of Southern League baseball to Mobile. The Baysharks are credited with bringing professional baseball back to Mobile after a 23‑year hiatus since the Mobile White Sox left after the 1970 season. Baseball in Mobile goes back a long ways, at least as early as 1886.
