The Providence Rubes of Providence, Rhode Island, played exactly one season, 1926, and won the pennant doing it, going 97-55 as the Boston Braves' farm club. By every reference account the team was named for its manager, Rube Marquard, the 201-game winner who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1971.

Marquard pitched seven games himself at age 39, but the pennant belonged to the rest of the staff: Foster Edwards went 25-8 and Bill Anderson 20-11. Herb Thomas hit .326 and Dave Harris hit 15 home runs at Kinsley Park. The name lasted one winter, which leaves the Rubes a single-season champion with a Hall of Famer in the dugout.
