Rehoboth Beach Sea Hawks
The Rehoboth Beach Sea Hawks, based in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, joined the Eastern Shore League in 1947 as the Rehoboth Beach Pirates, a Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate, before being renamed the Sea Hawks for their final 1949 season.
That 1949 season turned out to be the last the Eastern Shore League ever played. The Sea Hawks made it count, winning the league's final championship, defeating Federalsburg 4 games to 3 in the finals to close out the league's 27-year, three-era run on the Delmarva Peninsula.
The Eastern Shore League was a Class D league that ran on the Delmarva Peninsula across three separate stretches: 1922 to 1928, 1937 to 1941, and 1946 to 1949, with teams drawn from Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia. In the 1800s and first half of the 1900s, teams existed in thousands of small towns across the United States, as Americans looked for recreational activities and entertainment in the era before TV.
