Terre Haute Tots
Baseball in Terre Haute, Indiana, has a long history and goes all the way back to 1884 with a team in the Northwestern League. The Terre Haute Tots or Hottentots are two distinct franchises in the that history.
The Terre Haute Hottentots existed from 1891-1909, mostly playing in the Central League but also spent a couple seasons in the Three I League (Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League). The Hottentots won the Three I league in 1901, finished second in 1902 and then promptly moved to the Central League through 1909.
Similarly named but not quite the franchise, the Terre Haute Tots started play in the Triple I League in 1919 under the Terre Haute Browns, presumably due to an affiliation with the St. Louis Browns but we're not sure. Anyway, in 1921 they changed their name to the Terre Haute Tots. They were very successful and won the regular season in 1922 and 1924 and were runners up a number of times. These Tots played at Memorial Stadium in Terre Haute, which is currently the home of Indiana State football. Unfortunately the Tots disbanded in the middle of the season in 1937.
