Vintage Utah Shirts: Defunct Utah Baseball Teams

Utah baseball started with railroads and silver. Two of the four clubs in the state's 1900 league were fielded by railroad companies, and the team that won it was named after a shellfish, roughly 700 miles from the nearest ocean. Ogden's Lobsters took pennants in 1900 and 1901 under a manager everyone called Dad, and both leagues folded underneath him. Salt Lake City named its 1911 club the Skyscrapers after the first tall buildings going up downtown, and Park City fielded the Miners out of a silver camp in the Wasatch.

The reference books say most of these clubs folded early. Period newspapers say otherwise. Ogden was still playing in 1910 and Park City through 1908, years past where the record books stop, and those seasons are on these shirts because we went and looked.
