The Beckley Bengals were a minor league baseball team from Beckley, WV, that played in the Mountain State League in 1937 and 1938, winning the league title both years. As a Detroit Tigers affiliate, they produced notable alumni like nine-time all-star and 1940 MVP Frank McCormick and pitcher Lee Grissom. The Bengals were part of a wave of small-town teams in the first half of the 19th cenutry as baseball became America’s pastime.
