The Woonsocket Speeders of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, were a charter member of the Class C Colonial League in 1914, a six-team circuit of southeastern New England mill cities that served as a farm system for the outlaw Federal League. They went 49-48 and finished third, with home games at the Clinton Oval.
Outfielder Joe Gaudette won the batting title at .321 and led the league with 117 hits. The nickname has no surviving explanation. In a mill city a speeder was the roving frame that fed the spinning mules, though the name may just as easily have promised a fast ballclub. Woonsocket did not return for the 1915 season.
