The Bowling Green Barons played in the Class D Kitty League from 1939 until the league’s suspension in 1942. Originally the Lexington Bees, the team was purchased by businessman Vick Smith and moved to Bowling Green, where they became a Brooklyn Dodgers farm club. The Barons won the Kitty League playoffs in 1939 and the regular season title in 1940, wearing uniforms with an interlocked “BG” and navy caps with a block “B.” After World War II, the Kitty League returned in 1946 without Bowling Green, and professional baseball did not return to the city until 2009 with the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
