The Centreville Colts, based in Centreville, Maryland, joined the Eastern Shore League in 1937 when it reformed after a nine-year absence. They played as the Colts from 1937 to 1939, then the Centreville Red Sox from 1940 to 1941 as a Boston Red Sox affiliate, and finally the Centreville Orioles in 1946 as a Cleveland Indians affiliate, their only season under that name.

That 1946 season was the high point of Centreville's brief minor league history. The club went 88-37, the most dominant regular season in Eastern Shore League history, finishing 11.5 games ahead of second-place Milford and leading the league in runs scored. Centreville won the championship that year, beating Milford 4 games to 1 in the finals, then folded after the season.

What made the run remarkable was the town behind it. Centreville's postwar population was about 1,100, yet the club drew 42,500 fans across 62 home games, nearly 700 fans a night, with some games topping 1,500 and a playoff game against Dover drawing 2,550, more than double the town's population.

The Eastern Shore League was a Class D league that ran on the Delmarva Peninsula across three separate stretches: 1922 to 1928, 1937 to 1941, and 1946 to 1949, with teams drawn from Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia.
