The Macon Peaches, based in Macon, Georgia, took the name in 1907 when the Macon Brigands were rechristened, and carried it on and off for the better part of the next sixty years. The 1907 club went 68-54 and finished third in the Class C circuit that ran across Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida.
The early Peaches years produced steady baseball rather than championships. The 1914 team went 52-68 but had the league's best hitter in George Stinson, who batted .322. Macon became the Tigers in 1916 and disbanded on May 19, 1917, the same day Columbus folded, as the league shrank and cut its season short.
Macon's baseball history reaches back further than that. The city fielded clubs in the old Southern League as early as 1885, played as Central City in 1892 and 1893, and as the Hornets in 1894. The Peaches name kept coming back through the decades, and in 1961 Macon joined the Southern Association for what turned out to be that league's final season before it folded entirely.
The nickname was never complicated. Georgia's peach crop was the state's defining agricultural export, and Macon sat in the middle of the growing country that produced it.
