The Paducah Chiefs were the name of Paducah, Kentucky's Kitty League club in 1903, 1911-12, and 1949-55, honoring Chief Paduke, the Chickasaw leader who befriended the area's early settlers. The Chiefs won the 1913 pennant with an 80-47 record and then the Kitty League's final championship in 1955, declared champions over Mayfield on winning percentage as the league dissolved.
Paducah alumni include Ben Tincup, who pitched here at age 48 in the last of his 30 minor league seasons; Jim Frey, who hit .325 for Paducah as a 19-year-old and later managed the 1980 Kansas City Royals to the American League pennant; and Grover Land, a Cleveland catcher whose arrest record was nearly as long as his career.
