Capital City Bombers (Columbia, SC)

The Capital City Bombers were a Single A minor legaue baseball team that played out of Capital City Stadium in Columbia, SC. The Stadium is historic, having been originally built in 1927 although it was significantly remodeled in 1991. The Bombers took up residence there in 1994, and won a league title in 1998. They would return to the championship series in 2004, but fell to the Hickory Crawdads.

The Bombers name and logo comes from the B-25 bombers that the Doolitte Raiders flew during WWII. The Raiders famously led an attack on Japan in April 1942 as retaliation for Pearl Harbor. The Raiders were led by Lt. Col. James Doolittle and trained in Columbia, SC.

The Bombers would leave town after the 2004 season, leaving Columbia without a team until the Columbia Blowfish started playing at Capital City Stadium in 2006.
