The Longview Cannibals were a minor league baseball team that played in various leagues between 1893 and 1939. The team would win their only league title in the East Texas League in 1926, but the team overall was quite good most years and sent many players on to the majors. Their unique name comes from a newspaper reporter who wrote in 1895 that when the Longview team went to San Antonio to play the San Antonio Missions the Longview team "ate up" the Missions. And, for whatever reason the name stuck. So that's the story of one of the most unusal minor league baseball team names of all time. The logo used is a likeness of the real logo patch the Cannibals wore on their uniforms.
