Olive Hill Brickies

The Olive Hill Brickies were a minor league baseball team that played both independent ball and in the Eastern Kentucky League during the 1920s and 1930s. They hailed from Olive Hill, KY, which had a population of only 1,599 for the 2010 census. However, the Brickies were from a time when many towns and cities around Kentucky had small baseball teams that would either play in lower level circuits or play independent games against any team that would challenge them.

At this time, there was the General Refractories Company in Olive Hill, which specialized in making Bricks, and thus the Brickies got their nickname. General Refractories closed in 1971.

The Brickies were part of the Eastern Kentucky League, which according to newspaper records, was a six-team circuit in 1931 that featured the Brickies, the Ashland Guards, Owingsville Merchants, as well as teams from Louisa, Greenup, and Hitchins.
