Erie Sailors
The Erie Sailors moniker is historic in Erie, PA, dating back all the way to 1906. A number of teams have used the name over the years, with the first being one that played in the Interstate League. Various other Sailors teams would play in the Ohio-Penn League and the Central League in the ensuing years. In the post-war years, the Sailors popped back up a number of times in the PONY League, Mid-Atlantic League and the New York-Penn League. In all, there were about seven separate stints for an Erie Sailors team from 1906 through the 1960s.
In the 1990s, the name was revived for what is at least currently, the final time. A New York-Penn League team was restarted in 1990 and played there for four seasons before moving to the Frontier League in 1994. This iteration of the Sailors was extremely competitive, losing twice in the NY-Penn final and finally capturing a league title in 1994 as Frontier League champs. Unfortunately, the team would move following their championship season.
To celebrate the Sailors' history in Erie, we've created apparel celebrating the classic team, with both a selection of 1990s logo gear and our own historic illustration celebrating the earlier Sailors teams.
