Vincennes Alices
The Vincennes Alices were a short-lived minor league baseball team from Vincennes, Indiana. They started play in 1903 in the KITTY League, which was a Class D league consisting of teams from Kentucky, Illinois, and Tennessee which gave it the KITTY moniker. The Alices were a rare team from outside those three states in the league and Vincennes was one of only two Indiana cities to field a team in the league (the other being Evanston for a single year in 1912). The team's name came from the 1900 revolutionary war romance novel Alice of Old Vincennes that was based in the town.
The baseball Alices were formed in 1903 and an original member of the KITTY league, although that version of the team didn't last long. They made it through only 19 games before folding in June. For 1904, the team was reborn as the Reds, although the name was quickly changed back to Alices in 1905. The team fared much better in '05, as they defeated Paducah in a 13 (!) game series for the playoff title. In 1906, the league didn't hold playoffs and the Alices won the league pennant with a 79-49 record.
After that, the Alices would appear sporadically in the KITTY League. In 1910, they would again win the pennant with 64 wins. Their final season would be 1913, and they finished a poor 34-92. Following 1913, minor league baseball has yet to return to Vincennes.
