Springfield Browns

The Springfield Browns, hailing from Springfield, Illinois, were a historic minor league baseball team. The Browns played from 1938-1948 in the Triple I League and were a minor league affiliate of the St. Louis Browns.

The Triple I League (also known as the Illinois - Indiana - Iowa League) was a Class B league that ran from 1901 through 1962 consisting of teams from across Illinois, Indiana and Iowa, and occasionally other midwestern states such as Wisconsin, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. In the late 1800s and first half of the 1900s, teams existed in thousands of small towns across the United States, as Americans looked for recreational activities and entertainment in the era before TV was prominent.

The Browns would win the Triple I playoff title in 1939 despite a fourth place 65-55 regular season finish. They would knock off Evansville and then Decatur in the playoffs to claim the title of playoff champions. The Browns were consistently in the top half of the III League, but would fold after a last place 1949 season.

Our Springfield Browns design is based of program artwork from the original team.

The Browns have a number of MLB alumns, most famous is probably Don Larsen who pitched for them in 1949, seven years before his perfect game in 1956. Roy Sievers also played for the Browns. Sievers was the first ever AL Rookie of the Year in 1949.
