Maryville-Alcoa Twins
The Maryville-Alcoa Twins were a short-lived minor league baseball team from the twin cities of Maryville and Alcoa, Tennessee. The team played in the Mountain States League, which was a Class D league that comprised teams in Tennessee, West Virginia, Kentucky and Virginia.
The Twins started play in the 1953 season and were led by a former major leaguer, Jim Poole. The team won the pennant that year and made it to the playoff final, losing to the Knoxville Smokies. In 1954, the Twins faced low attendance and financial issues, and would move to Morristown, Tennessee, and would fold pretty quickly after the move.
