The Beckley Bengals were a minor league team from Beckley, West Virginia, that played in the Mountain State League in 1937 and 1938 and won the league title both years. The Bengals were an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, which likely contributed to their success, as affiliations were on and off for many teams in the league. The Bengals can claim All-Stars Frank McCormick and Lee Grissom as alumni; McCormick was a nine-time All-Star and the 1940 National League MVP.
The Bengals were one of many teams in smaller towns and cities during this era, as Americans looked for recreational outlets and America's pastime swept the country.
