The Bluefield Blue-Grays began in the Mountain State League in 1937 and played through 1955, with a wartime gap from 1942 to 1946, affiliated in turn with the Braves, Senators, and Red Sox. They never won the Mountain State League but took Appalachian League titles in 1949, 1950, and 1954.
Bluefield straddles the West Virginia-Virginia line, and Bowen Field, opened in 1939, sits entirely on the Virginia side while being run by the city of Bluefield, West Virginia. Baseball has been played there in all but one season since 1955.
