The Union City Greyhounds hailed from Union City, Tennessee, and were a long-running Kitty League franchise from 1935 to 1955. The Kitty League was a Class D minor league of the first half of the 20th century made up of teams from Kentucky, Illinois, and Tennessee.
The Greyhounds played 19 seasons in the Kitty League and won three titles: 1936, 1948, and 1954. The 1936 win was not without controversy. At the time, leagues played two halves of a season, and the winners of each half met for the championship. The Paducah Indians won the first half, and in the second half Paducah and Union City tied for first. The teams met in a series to determine the overall champion, and after losing game one Paducah refused to play on. The Paducah manager and seven players were subsequently banned and the Greyhounds were awarded the title.
In 1953 the team affiliated with the Brooklyn Dodgers and was renamed the Union City Dodgers. The league folded after 1955, and Union City has not hosted pro baseball since.
