There's a long history of baseball in Evansville, Indiana, and the Evansville Bees were a small but important part of it. The Bees played in the Three-I League (the Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League) from 1938 to 1942 as an affiliate of the Boston Braves, who were known as the Boston Bees at the time. The Evansville club took on the Braves name when it resumed play in 1946 after the war.
The Bees were a dominant force in the league, winning it in 1938 and 1941 and finishing second in the regular season in 1939. Their success was due in part to a young Warren Spahn, who pitched for the 1941 team before making his major league debut in 1942. Both title-winning teams featured a number of players who went on to the majors.
The Bees played at Bosse Field, the third-oldest ballpark still in use. Today the park hosts the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League.
