The Lodge & Shipley Baseball Club was sponsored by the Lodge & Shipley Machine Tool Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, a manufacturer of engine lathes that operated from the 1890s until 1987. The club played in the Brendamour Saturday League, a Cincinnati amateur league, and won the league in 1912. After that season Lodge & Shipley challenged American Tool Works, champions of the rival M and M League, for the overall city title.
Several of the Lodge & Shipley players went on to play minor league baseball, including Jake Vatter, who later played for the Paducah Chiefs of the Kitty League. Company teams like this one were common in the early 1900s, when factories sponsored clubs as a point of pride and a recruiting tool.
