The Waterloo White Hawks played the Three-I League (the Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League) from 1940 to 1942 and 1946 to 1956 as a Chicago White Sox affiliate at Riverfront Stadium. The 1947 club won the city's only Three-I championship under Jack Onslow, drawing a record 174,000 fans, and Onslow was promoted to manage the big league White Sox the next year.
Hall of Famer Luis Aparicio played shortstop here in 1954 alongside Rookie of the Year Earl Battey, and the 1955 club featured Norm Cash, the 1961 AL batting champion. The White Sox ended the working agreement after 1956 and the White Hawks name went with it.
