The Terre Haute Terre-iers, based in Terre Haute, Indiana, took a name that was a deliberate misspelling of "Terriers," playing off the city's own name. Terre Haute had already fielded Central League teams under other names since 1900, and from 1910 on, the city's club kept the same continuous run in the league while changing nicknames almost every year: the Stags in 1910, the Miners in 1911, the Terre-iers from 1912 to 1914, and the Highlanders in 1915 and 1916.

In 1912, the Terre-iers finished tenth in a newly expanded twelve-team Central League, going 59-79, 18 games behind the first-place Fort Wayne Railroaders. That June, in a game against Akron, Akron's Jack McCallister came to the plate five times against Terre Haute without recording a single official at-bat, laying down five consecutive sacrifice bunts.

Terre Haute finished fifth in 1913 under manager Ed "Goat" Anderson and fourth in 1914 under Larry Quinlan, whose club got a boost from Jack Sheehan's league-leading .340 batting average and 179 hits.

The following year, now playing as the Highlanders, Terre Haute produced its best Central League talent: Art Nehf, a hometown product who'd just graduated with an electrical engineering degree from Terre Haute's Rose Polytechnic Institute. Nehf led the league with 218 strikeouts and a 1.38 ERA, threw a no-hitter, and struck out 17 batters in another start. The Boston Braves, the reigning World Series champions, purchased his contract for $3,500 and put him on their roster on August 13, 1915.

The Central League itself was a Class B circuit that ran, often sporadically, from 1903 into the 1930s (with a later 1948-51 revival), fielding teams mostly from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

All of our high quality apparel is designed, printed, and shipped within the USA. This collection features 100% original designs based on the history and nicknames of historic minor league teams.

Our premium lightweight shirts are the hugely popular Bella+Canvas brand 3001 tees. They are much lighter and thinner feeling than a traditional heavyweight tee. They also are more form fitting and feel more snug. These are generally 90% to 100% cotton, although please note that heather colors in this item are 52% cotton.

Size Guide: Fit is true to size or a little snug. Considering ordering one size up if you are normally between sizes.
