The Greenville Majors were a Class D club from Greenville, Texas, between 1946 and 1957. They started in the East Texas League in 1946, then moved to the Big State League for 1947-50 and 1953. After a hiatus they played one more year, in the Sooner State League in 1957.
The Majors and their stadium, Majors Stadium, were both named for Lt. Truett Jay Majors, the first person from Greenville killed in World War II.
The Majors had a major highlight when the team defeated the New York Yankees in 1949. On April 10 they played an exhibition against the Yankees in Greenville, at a time when major league teams barnstormed after spring training. The Yankees split their squad, with half playing in Beaumont and half in Greenville. Heavy rain delayed the Yankees' flight, and the team ended up driving through the rain from Dallas to Greenville. In front of 3,000 people, the Majors beat the Yankees 4-3.
