The Pennington Gap Miners were a short-lived team that played in the Mountain States League from 1948 to 1951 at Leeman Field in Pennington Gap, Virginia. The Mountain States League was a Class D league of teams from Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky, and West Virginia. The Miners generally struggled with attendance, averaging a couple hundred fans a game in what was, at the time, billed as the world's largest enclosed ballpark.
The team played during a time when professional baseball was rapidly expanding across small towns, as many cities and states established their own leagues and teams.
