The Owingsville Merchants were a team from Owingsville, Kentucky, that played independent ball and in the Eastern Kentucky League in the 1920s and 30s. The Eastern Kentucky League was a six-team circuit in 1931 made up of the Merchants, the Olive Hill Brickies, the Ashland National Guards, and teams from Louisa, Greenup, and Hitchins whose nicknames have not survived in the record.
Teams like the Merchants were a staple of small-town life during this era, as Americans looked for recreational outlets and America's pastime swept the country.
