The Springfield Browns were a minor league baseball team from Springfield that played in the Three-I League from 1938-1949 as an affiliate of the St. Louis Browns. They won the league’s playoff championship in 1939 despite finishing fourth in the regular season, defeating Evansville and Decatur during their postseason run. The Browns were regularly competitive throughout the 1940s before folding after a last-place finish in 1949. Notable alumni included Don Larsen, who later threw a perfect game in the 1956 World Series, and Roy Sievers, the first American League Rookie of the Year in 1949.
