Tallahassee Capitals

The Tallahassee Capitals, based in Tallahassee, Florida, were one of six founding members of the Georgia-Florida League in 1935 and the circuit's most successful early franchise, winning back-to-back championships in 1935 and 1936. The team was affiliated with the New York Giants in those first two seasons, then aligned with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1938 and the Cleveland Indians in 1939 before the wartime suspension ended their run in 1942.

Tallahassee was the only Florida city to sustain a long-term presence in the league, with the state capital providing natural identity for a team playing in a circuit that bore Florida's name. After the war the franchise returned as the Tallahassee Pirates, winning the 1950 championship over Americus, then departed the league permanently that offseason. From 1950 onward, despite its name, the Georgia-Florida League had no Florida representation. The Georgia-Florida League was a Class D circuit that ran, with a wartime interruption from 1943 through 1945, from 1935 through 1958, fielding teams primarily from south Georgia with occasional representation from Florida and Alabama.
