Tifton Blue Sox
The Tifton Blue Sox, based in Tifton, Georgia, joined the Georgia-Florida League in 1951 after competing in the Georgia State League for the prior two seasons, carrying the same franchise identity into a new circuit. The Blue Sox played three consecutive seasons from 1951 through 1953, then sat out 1954 under the Tifton Indians name before returning as the Blue Sox again in 1955. Their 1951 debut was the strongest season of the run: Tifton won the first round of the playoffs before falling to Waycross in the finals, four games to one. The franchise folded after 1956 as declining minor league attendance across the South made the smaller Class D markets increasingly hard to sustain.
The Georgia-Florida League was a Class D circuit that ran, with a wartime interruption from 1943 through 1945, from 1935 through 1958, fielding teams primarily from south Georgia with occasional representation from Florida and Alabama.
